I am slowly replacing the store-bought items in my house with homemade alternatives. Last night I made a wonderful blue cheese dressing using tofu and cottage cheese. Today I replaced Ava’s favorite dipping sauce with homemade ranch dressing. As I typed she is munching on carrots dipped in my new creation!
When you ditch store-bought ranch dressing with a homemade version you drastically reduce the sugar and oil that you put on your salad or dip your veggies in. Store-bought salad dressings often contain colors and gmo’s as well, I know that I do not want to serve those ingredients to my family!
Making your own homemade ranch dressing is easy I was very happy when I realized that I had all of the spices that I would need in my cupboard. The herbs that I use are dill, parsley, chives, garlic powder, and onion powder, easy peasy and delicious!
Once you get your ingredients together it is super easy to make. All you have to do is whisk them all together and you have your very own homemade ranch dressing! I chill my homemade ranch dressing for two hours in the fridge before storing.
Here is the recipe:
- ¼ cup buttermilk
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ teaspoon dried dill
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley
- ½ teaspoon dried chives
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- Whisk all of the ingredients together. Chill for at least 2 hours.
I store my homemade ranch dressing in a glass mason jar, nothing too fancy around here!
